Quirky. That word best describes Alfred Chicken. It's something that you would think Japan would make, but no. At first glance, it's a normal platform game. The controls are like one, and it even LOOKS like one. But this quirky little game is much more. Think of it more puzzle-oriented; the levels are basically big puzzles, you, the chicken, have to solve and survive through. Think of this game more like Acro the Acrobat than Super Mario World.
Graphics [7/10]:
Plain throughout, nothing that's going to shock you. All the levels are bright and colorful, everything you would expect from an Everyone rated game. One word of note: The charcters onscreen are a little too small.
Sound [6/10]:
Again, nothing to wow you at all. You'll get the very least expected, no really inspired sounds, or music that will restore your faith in Super NES gaming.
Control [8/10]:
Alfred Chicken can be somewhat frustrating to control in the stages, and although you will get used to him, you'd rather the developers tried to make a better effort.
Gameplay [8/10]:
Gameplay is where it's at with this little title. Some of the puzzles are very rewarding, and you will feel need to go to the next circus-themed level. If you want something a little quirky and rewarding, try it; but don't expect the next Super Mario World.
Overall [75%]:
After beating the game, there is no incentive to play some more at all. Basically, this will be rotting next to your copy of Mortal Kombat on the bottom of your shelf, but hey-it's a fun ride while it lasts! If you happen upon it, I suggest a one-day rental first-this game's puzzle gameplay will turn off most people.
